The Italian

With a whole arsenal of traditional Italian cold cut meats, The Italian is a cold specialty sub at Gambino's that is packed with juiciness. The sweetness of cured meats is juxtaposed with the shredded lettuce, which is prepared East Coast Style. This means that olive oil, vinegar, herbs, and salt & pepper are added to taste. Not fancy, no-frills bread holds everything together from spilling out too much.

Beware. There is so much in this sub it's bound to get straightforward, quick and messy, and oh, so satisfying.

Gambino's (Bayside Food Court)

For co-owners Ramzi Hihi and Gini Gambino, a sandwich was never just a sandwich. It was a lifestyle. Before coming to the West Coast, Hihi and Gambino would frequent the Boston's famous Victoria's and New York's legendary Luigi's, respectively. Now on the West Coast, they realized that the taste of amazing sandwiches and subs from the East Coast had to be brought back.

For the love of old-fashioned sandwich shops, Hihi and Gambino made their dream into a reality. But their menu couldn't be just any menu. It had to be a menu they loved and loved to make. For over two weeks, they made sandwich after sandwich, sampling and tweaking them until they were thoroughly satisfied. "I'm just a simple man who loves sandwiches, and if I didn't like em' I wouldn't serve em'," says Hihi.

Visit Gambino's and glimpse into their passionately love affair with sandwiches, made from traditional Italian delicatessen meats and ingredients, all made East Coast style using olive oil, vinegar, salt & pepper, herbs.
